When it Comes to Sustainability, Walking the Talk is Key

When it comes to sustainability

The word sustainability is new to some, perhaps even perceived as a buzzword – a word that comes and goes from people’s vocabulary depending on what’s trending.

For folks like Matt & I, it’s a word that’s been part of our vocabulary for over a decade, and will likely be with us indefinitely.

I first connected with founder & Chief Environmental Evangelist of One Tree Planted over the phone back in May of this year.  Looking to partner up with a tree planting organization to help further my Planting Social Impact program, I reached out to Matt.

He had me at “Sustainability Made Simple”, the first words that followed “Our Roots” under the One Tree Planted About Us menu.

Well isn’t that funny, I’ve been promoting the Simply Sustainable grassroots movement for years, and in a location not too far from my home town, someone else is promoting sustainability in a slightly different way.

After a few conversations, we realized we had a lot in common.  We are both after making a difference on this Earth, and we both believe this can be achieved by planting trees.  Furthermore, we both have backgrounds in business, which is a natural bridge to promoting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

While I do a lot of talking, if you’ve read some of my blogs you’ll notice that I love to converse!  I also feel it’s important to walk the talk.  Scaling back on luxuries in life to keep my carbon footprint to a minimum, and getting my hands in the Earth every chance I get.

Matt too loves to get out in nature & connect with the Earth.  He encourages teams of eager volunteers to plant trees and maintain greenspaces, protecting them from invasive species.  While I could keep talking about the projects he leads, I’m going show you instead.

Below are just a few of the many photos taken out in the field from a recent Employee Engagement event.  Looks like they had a lot of fun!

Already planting with your green team?  We’d love to hear about it, feel free to comment below to inspire others in communities near & far.
