What is International Day of Forests?

In 2012, the United Nations declared this day as International Day of Forests in order to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and trees outside of forests. In celebration, activities take place all over the world from tree planting and other activities. This year’s theme is, “Forests and Biodiversity” and it is no secret that these two go hand in hand.

Another message the United Nations is trying to convey this year is how forests are "too precious to lose" and how they contribute greatly to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. If your life isn't consumed by trees on a daily basis, you probably don't think about how much you'd be affected if our forests disappeared.

Reasons our forests are "too precious to lose":

And the winners so far are...

Jonathan giving his best Mowgli pose in his favorite forest, the Amazon!

Zarah's favorite forest is the Nuuksio National Park in Espoo, Finland!

Fontaine LOVES the Muir Woods!

Help us raise awareness about the world’s forests by sharing your #favoriteforest! Post it, insta story it, comment, tell your friends! We can’t wait to find out which is your favorite.
