Let's talk business. The business of planting trees! Reforestation has been in the spotlight as a nature-based solution to mitigate climate change for some time now. And it's great to see trees getting the attention they deserve. With so much in the world that needs fixing right now, many consumers expect that their favorite brands are factoring positive impact into their business models. We are lucky enough to work with a vast array of different brands doing just that!
Do Shoppers Really Care About Sustainability?
At one point, sustainable products were a niche in the marketplace and not something that uniquely appealed to consumers. But these days many more people are aware of the impact their buying decisions have on the environment. Brands can no longer claim that consumers do not seek sustainable products, in fact they are demanding it. With Gen Z quickly approaching the workforce, many generational studies have been conducted to observe their purchasing habits against other generations. According to The State of Consumer Spending, 62% of Gen Z shoppers surveyed insist on purchasing sustainable products which is about the same as America's cherished Millennials. They also found that it matters to other generations as well. The survey showed that sustainability is important to 54% of Gen X and 39% of Baby Boomers (c'mon boomers you can do better than that 😉). These numbers show that we are in the midst of a huge shift when it comes to sustainable living and brands are key to achieving sustainable development goals.
How to Fit a Forest into a Sustainability Plan
Aside from aiming to reforest the globe, one of One Tree Planted's main priorities is to make it simple for both individuals and businesses to give back and make a positive impact for the planet. Through the years, we have been grateful to have many amazing brands not only support us, but grow with us too. We allow all businesses large and small, established or just getting off the ground to become a business partner because every tree matters. Not that long ago, we were also just a little sapling of an organization and recognize the power of joining forces towards a collective purpose.
The way businesses have adapted reforestation into their sustainability plans vary. Which is amazing because planting trees can be tailored to just about any business brand. We've made Corporate Social Responsibility simple by providing a few simple ideas:
One for One - by implementing a one-for-one model, brands can plant a tree for every product or service they sell. They can also donate a percentage of sales, set up a recurring donation, or tie tree planting into social media campaigns.
Sponsorship - Some brands are all about action, and we love it! Another way to get involved is by sponsoring a tree planting event for schools or communities.
Employee Engagement - Organizing a company tree planting event is not only great for employee morale, but it is also a great way to get employees to feel connected to the cause. And it's fun!

Twisted X is a great example of a company making new "strides" every day towards being a more sustainable brand! They've created a sustainable ecoTWX® Collection. This collection uses recycled plastic and comes in 100% recycled packaging. To take it a step further, for every pair purchased plants a tree. To date, they have planted over 100,000 trees with One Tree Planted in North America.
NIKIN is a great example of what it means to "grow with us". NIKIN is a sustainable clothing brand from Switzerland who hopped onto the scene around the same time as One Tree Planted. From the jump, they had sustainability and trees on their mind. Not only does NIKIN plant a tree for every purchase made, they've entirely integrated reforestation into their brand, and they've personally planted trees with us. Their slogan is "tree by tree" which is fitting because a little can go a long way when it comes to reforestation. To date, NIKIN has planted over 436,000 trees with us all over the world!
Osmia Organics provides natural skin care products that also plants trees! Founder, Dr. Sarah Villafranco was formerly in emergency medicine. After some family hardships, she reconnected with her passion for chemistry and the making of natural soap which lead her to starting Osmia Organics! The way she has tied in reforestation to her brand is simply eloquent, "The word Osmia is a reminder to notice the details of your life — the color of the sky, the warmth of the sun on your skin, the smell of the pine needles under your feet. In an ever-changing climate (literally), we all have a responsibility to take care of the planet. With some creativity, it is possible for both individuals and businesses alike to make some positive change. As individuals, we can be more conscious consumers and seek out these brands who are doing sustainability the right way while supporting awesome reforestation projects the best we can.
