global forest watch

Want to learn more about where deforestation is happening around the world? Use the interactive map to explore tree cover loss and forest change over time. One Tree Planted has planting projects in six global regions: North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and The Pacific.
Planting trees in each of these regions comes with its own diverse benefits, challenges, and rewards. And every reforestation project has its own unique impact on forests, communities, animals, and the planet overall.

North America

This is your heading text.

North America has a remarkable diversity of forest coverage. From the old-growth redwoods of California, to the temperate lowlands of Québec, Canada, North America's forests are home to many iconic plants and animals, and play an important role in supplying communities with food, water, and employment.

One Tree Planted has planted trees in more than a dozen US states and across three Canadian provinces. Our projects restore forests in the wake of major wildfires like those in Paradise, California; repair damage caused by industry and resource extraction; and even support the endangered Southern Resident Orca of the Pacific Northwest.

Latin America

This is your heading text.

Some of the globe's most important tropical forests can be found in Latin America. Despite this, the Amazon, Andes, and Atlantic forests face extreme deforestation as massive tracts are leveled for agriculture, livestock grazing, and timber.

One Tree Planted's projects in Latin America are rebuilding forests and restoring land so the benefits of healthy tropical forests can be felt around the world. Our partners work with communities impacted by deforestation so they benefit from improved forest management practices and agricultural techniques like agroforestry. This also ensures the trees and land are taken care of for generations to come, and the forests can continue to thrive.

Asia

This is your heading text.

About 20% of global forest coverage is found in Asia and the Pacific, and those forests are considered to be one of the most biologically diverse in the world. But Asia's tropical rainforests are suffering from the world's highest rates of deforestation brought on by wildfires, palm oil production, and illegal mining operations.

Planting trees across Asia is helping to rebuild the habitat of critically endangered species like orangutans, tigers, and more than 1,700 species of birds. These projects are creating jobs and providing sustainable, long-term income for communities so people and forests can live together in harmony.

Africa

This is your heading text.

Overall, some 21% of Africa's tropical forest has been lost over the last century, and in some regions - West and East Africa in particular - deforestation has exceeded 80%. People in these regions often depend heavily on forests for their food, shelter, water, and livelihoods, making restoration of Africa's forests an even more critical undertaking.

Our planting projects in Africa focus on rebuilding animal habitat, restoring soil and critical watersheds, all while improving the lives of the communities who rely on the forests the most. Our planting partners promote agroforestry and educate farmers on the benefits of improved forestry practices, providing communities with sustainable sources of food, wood, and income.

Europe

This is your heading text.

One Tree Planted has a growing number of projects in European countries, such as in Iceland, Scotland, Spain, and Romania.

Our reforestation projects in Europe are working to re-establish woodland, improve water and soil quality, and create habitat for wildlife in areas that were historically forested. Some of our projects also reforest and restore abandoned agricultural land and areas destroyed by forest fire and other natural disasters.

The Pacific

This is your heading text.

With the seventh largest forest area in the world, Australia makes up 3% of the Earth’s forests of which 123 million hectares are unique and varied native forests, while New Zealand is home to unique forest ecosystems, including kauri forests, kahikatea swamp forests, pōhutukawa forests and mixed broadleaved forests. Unfortunately, extensive deforestation is destroying forests and killing millions of endangered animals.

One Tree Planted has planted trees in five of Australia’s states and territories and across New Zealand. Our projects are restoring forests following the destruction of the Black Summer bushfires; are rejuvenating critical habitat for wildlife like koalas and cockatoos; and safeguarding community watersheds through restoration of indigenous tree species.
