Earth Day is a time to reflect on nature’s generosity—and act boldly to safeguard it. It’s a call to help restore critical ecosystems, regenerate damaged landscapes and renew the natural balance that sustains us all. Humble Bundle is heeding the call.

This April, 5% of proceeds from every Humble Choice membership sold will support our mission of global reforestation. It’s a meaningful way for subscribers to enjoy great games and support a greener future.

Humble Bundle is approaching an impressive milestone: 1.5 million trees planted across five global regions. Since 2021, they have supported projects ranging from restoring native forests in the Andes to supporting biodiversity hotspots in Asia and healing land degraded by forest fires and other natural disasters around the world.

These efforts support clean air, vital habitats, and meaningful livelihoods for local communities. This is what partnership for the planet looks like: purpose driven, data backed, with lasting impact.

Learn About Five Projects That Humble Bundle Has Supported

Uganda: Albertine Rift

Humble Bundle supported the planting of 6,566 trees across the Budongo-Bugoma Corridor in the Albertine Rift region of Western Uganda.

Globally, the Albertine Rift is recognized as a major center of diversity and endemism for many species. Over 50% of birds, 39% of mammals, 19% of amphibians, and 14% of reptiles and plants found on mainland Africa occur in this region. With a population of over 1,000 chimpanzees between the Albertine Rift forests of Budongo and Bugoma, trees are a necessity to restore critical habitat across the region.

Trees were planted to restore degraded forest landscapes and biodiversity corridors, which form a network of community/private forests and national protected areas. These corridors connect communities of chimpanzees, improving the genetic viability of the species across its entire range. In addition to supporting biodiversity in one of Earth’s most biologically valuable ecoregions, our planting partner has undertaken extensive sustainable socioeconomic development in the communities around the Budongo-Bugoma corridor.

Andes: High Andes Polylepis Forest

High above the Amazon basin, shrouded in mist and nestled among the slopes of the longest mountain chain in the world live a community of gnarled, majestic trees: the High Andes Polylepis forest. Teeming with life and adapted to harsh alpine conditions, these unique forests shelter 20+ IUCN listed species and are threaded tightly with the indigenous communities who have called the range home for generations. As the headwaters of the Amazon, Polylepis forests are critical to the survival of species both in the Andes and the Amazon, and restoring them is the best way to continue securing the water supply of these globally significant ecosystems.

Humble Bundle supported the planting of 343,580 trees across two phases of this multi-year project, which represents the first multi-country, large-scale, grassroots initiative to restore the high altitude native forests of South America's high Andes. Working with local and indigenous communities, trees were planted on designated lands to expand existing forests, or to seed new ones in historically deforested areas. Each tree will help restore critical habitat, safeguard existing forest, and protect the headwaters of the Amazon River.

Southeast US: Natural Disaster Recovery

This project worked to reforest areas that have been impacted by natural disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires, and floods. Four native pine species were planted, including longleaf pine, shortleaf pine, slash pine, and loblolly pine. Planting a mix of these species fosters resilient and diverse forest ecosystems. This approach helps stabilize soil, reduce erosion, and support a wide range of wildlife by improving habitat quality.

Pine habitats are in decline throughout the region, but the Southeast US Natural Disaster Recovery project is helping restore key areas that support many wildlife species, including the gopher tortoise, red-cockaded woodpecker, indigo snake, deer, and turkey. In addition to habitat restoration, the plantings will help safeguard watersheds, bolster forest resilience, and sequester carbon. Overall, the project represents an investment in the long-term economic and environmental health of communities across the Southeastern US, ensuring a sustainable future for both people and land. Humble Bundle supported the planting of 142,858 trees.

India: Kaveri River Basin

This project planted native trees along the Kaveri River Basin, the third largest river in India, to restore ecological balance to the region, which has faced significant environmental degradation over the past two decades. This degradation stems from population growth, which has led to land conversion, deforestation, and disrupted water flows. A shift from arabica to robusta coffee farming and the increased use of chemical pesticides has further harmed the ecosystem. These changes have contributed to severe floods and landslides in recent years, displacing thousands of people and causing extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture.

Planting trees not only helps restore the landscape by promoting diverse plant and animal life, but also regulates the flow of water, reducing the severity of floods and droughts. As they grow, they will improve land use efficiency, rehydrate soil, and protect the Kaveri River, a critical water source for both people and wildlife. Coffee farming communities will benefit from enhanced livelihoods through improved crop yields, diversification, and the protection of coffee and other forest-derived resources. In addition to planting trees, our partner provided training on sustainable farming practices and helped improve access to government resources, fostering a resilient farming system that can better withstand present and future challenges. Humble Bundle supported the planting of 84,000 trees in India’s Kaveri River Basin.

Denmark: Jutland

This project established multi-functional woodland—which will be protected in perpetuity by the Danish Forest Act—on marginal farmland in western Jutland. The new forests will increase carbon uptake, retain groundwater, and fix nitrogen to mitigate the eutrophication of wetlands in the area. Our reforestation partner, a team of highly trained forestry professionals, planted a selection of 25+ native tree species that are suited to woodland restoration efforts.

Biodiversity will benefit from the creation of conservation areas for the threatened Hazel Dormouse—and the newly wooded areas will provide diversified habitat for many species of birds and insects. The local community will benefit from the many recreational opportunities offered by the woodlands, as well as a "school in the forest" initiative that will provide environmental education opportunities. Humble Bundle supported the planting of 6,069 trees in Jutland, Denmark.

Thank you to the Humble Bundle community for showing that strategy, resilience and teamwork don’t just shape virtual worlds—they help restore the real one, too. Just like in your favorite games, every action counts. Your support is helping rebuild forests, restore ecosystems, and create a healthier planet for future generations.
