Planting trees for Community will contribute to:
- Female farmer empowerment and education
- Preservation of tradition and culture
- An increase in income for marginalized communities
- Trees are the backbone of our planet, providing clean air and water, food and medicine, and natural resources. Reforestation is one of the best ways to create lasting social impact. We're focusing on community-led projects. Any donations made on this page will go directly towards reforestation initiatives focused on supporting communities and the vital work they do to get trees in the ground.🌱
- By partnering with on-the-ground organizations and nurseries, we will harbor a sense of community by supporting marginalized communities, generating stable incomes, and creating jobs. Reforestation will help communities economically and improve their health and wellness by providing nutritious food and medicine they may not have had access to before. Utilizing sustainable agroforestry methods, these projects will improve livelihoods for generations.

The Power of Community-Led Reforestation Projects
Discover the benefits of planting trees for community by watching our short video about reforestation in the Andes and Queuña Raymi, the festival of the polylepis. Communities gather, play music, perform ceremonial planting dances and walk together up to a planting site to collectively plant tens of thousands of trees in a single day.

The Albertine Rift
Africa
The Albertine Rift is globally recognized as a biodiversity hotspot, it ranks first among 119 distinct terrestrial eco-regions of continental Africa in terms of endemic species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, and second in terms of globally threatened species. Over 50% of birds, 39% of mammals, 19% of amphibians, and 14% of reptiles and plants of mainland Africa reside in this region.
The southwest of Western Australia
Australia
The southwest of Western Australia is an internationally recognized top 25 Biodiversity Hotspot. Many of the species in this region also hail from prehistoric times as the region has been unglaciated for more than 250 Million years! Unfortunately, this region has been over-cleared for the development of broad-acre agriculture, and now the remaining ecosystems are fragmented and in need of expansion and buffering to support their persistence and resilience into the future.
The Pacific Northwest
USA
The Pacific Northwest contains the United State’s largest rainforest, featuring some of the largest trees in the world. Record setting summer temperatures in 2020 and 2021 have created devastating wildfires, threatening the habitat of some of America’s most iconic biodiversity, and creating a need for jump-started recovery.

Female Farmer Empowerment and Education
Rwanda
Our reforestation partner KULA works to eradicate poverty through the development of entrepreneurs in Rwanda’s coffee-producing communities. Over the past 3 years, we have planted over 250,000 trees and empowered over 300 farmers — the majority of whom are women. Upon maturation, the coffee seedlings that are planted, grown, and maintained by the participating farmers, can provide sustainable income for farming families for up to 30 years.
Preserving Tradition and Culture
Andes
One Tree Planted has partnered with Global Forest Generation to support Accion Andina, the first multi-country, large-scale, grassroots initiative to restore the high-altitude native forests of South America's high Andes. Working with local and indigenous communities, the seeds are collected from nearby Polylepis forests and grown by local and indigenous people in community nurseries. The overall objective is to restore 1 million hectares of high Andean forests across 6 countries over the next 25 years. The trees planted are helping restore wetlands, safeguard existing forests, and protect critical Amazon headwaters.
Increased Income for Marginalized Communities
India
One Tree Planted has partnered with Sustainable Green Initiative (SGI), a local organization with one simple but powerful objective: to plant (mostly) fruit trees to fight hunger, poverty and climate change. Under this model, fruit tree saplings are distributed to the homesteads of marginal farmers, campuses, orphanages, old age homes, and other places of need. With the help of local Vrilksharakshaks, or “tree ambassadors”, farmers are given fruit trees and encouraged to practice organic and sustainable farming practices. In this way, planting trees helps foster environmental consciousness and sustainability in rural communities.
