Every year, Monarch butterflies migrate thousands of miles to winter in the forests of Mexico. As pollinators, they provide an invaluable ecological service to forests and farmlands across their range. Creating more forests for Monarchs to winter can protect the environment for years to come.
This project will include restoration on public land as well as privately owned land, creating spaces and opportunity accessible to communities and landowners alike. Indigenous communities will be at the center of restoration, taking care of the land and preserving it for the decades that will follow.
Planting trees helps keep soil in place, which will slow erosion and preserve the landscape in the face of natural disasters. The risk of landslides, a threat to the area, are greatly reduced when trees take root in the soil. This project will help maintain the shape of the land and the safety of the communities that live there.
